Betnovate Scalp Lotion includes the active ingredient Betamethasone, a type of topical corticosteroid medication utilized for alleviating inflammation brought on by allergies or skin irritations. Inflammation occurs when the immune system releases certain substances, causing blood vessels to expand, which leads to redness, itchiness, swelling, and pain similar to conditions like eczema and dermatitis.

Applying Betamethasone to the skin helps decrease the release of these substances from cells, alleviating skin inflammation symptoms. The formulation of Betnovate Hair Lotion is thinner than the Betnovate creams, lotions, and ointments, facilitating easier application to the scalp.

The Betnovate Scalp Lotion should be used sparingly on the affected areas of the scalp. It is recommended to apply the treatment using the nozzle of the bottle. You may rub the lotion into the scalp if desired, ensuring it is left to dry without washing it off. If you need to shampoo, make sure your hair is washed and dried before applying the lotion. Typically, application begins at twice daily; however, it should be used less frequently as the condition improves, in accordance with your doctor's instructions. Repeat treatments may be necessary to manage flare-ups of your condition.

Betnovate Scalp Lotion contains flammable alcohol. Avoid using it near open flames, lit objects such as gas and electric fires, cigarettes, or other heat sources like hairdryers.

Betnovate Scalp Lotion is intended for external use on the scalp exclusively. It should not be applied to the face or any other part of the body besides the scalp. Apply the lotion lightly to the affected areas and be cautious to prevent it from running onto the face or into the eyes. Rinse with cold water if accidental contact occurs. Avoid using it on broken skin. After applying Betnovate Scalp Lotion, wash your hands to prevent unintentional transfer to other areas.

Long-term use of corticosteroids over large skin areas, on raw or broken skin, or under airtight dressings may lead to increased absorption into the body. This heightens the risk of local side effects such as skin thinning and general side effects, including reduced natural hormone production by the adrenal glands. Therefore, continuous long-term use of Betnovate Scalp Lotion should be minimized whenever possible, particularly in children and on extensive skin areas. Cover the affected area only if directed by your doctor. If your skin does not improve after two to four weeks of treatment, consult your doctor. For children, Betnovate Scalp Lotion should generally not be used for more than five to seven days.

If prescribed Betnovate Scalp Lotion for psoriasis, regular check-ups with your doctor are essential. While corticosteroids can be beneficial for psoriasis in the short term, they may sometimes exacerbate the condition and lead to a relapse into generalized pustular psoriasis after treatment cessation.

If you suspect the treated skin area has become infected, discontinue use of Betnovate Scalp Lotion and consult your doctor.

Betnovate Scalp Lotion should not be used if you are aware of any sensitivity or allergy to its ingredients.
It is not advisable to use this medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
